Bahrain to discuss 'passport for goods'

Manama, September 15, 2013

A plan to make it easier to move goods from Bahrain to other countries is to be discussed at a seminar organised by the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), said a report.

The BCCI will be hosting the two-day Implementation Workshop on September 24 and 25 on ATA Carnets (the so-called passport for goods), reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The ATA Carnets is an international customs document, that facilitates the temporary admission of goods into other countries without the need for normal customs procedures.

Administered by the World Chambers Federation of the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), ATA Carnets currently has more than 70 countries in its network.

“The expansion of world trade has led to significant growth of temporary exports and imports of goods and with anticipated implementation of ATA Carnets in Bahrain, the national economy is set to benefit from simplified customs procedures,” said BCCI acting chief executive Nabeel Al Mahmood.

The workshop will be presented by Lee Ju Song, the regional director of ICC Asia office.-TradeArabia News Service
