25 killed in worksite accidents in Bahrain

Manama, November 27, 2013

At least 25 people have died in worksite accidents in Bahrain this year.

Bangladeshi Abdulsattar Abdullatif, 38, became the latest victim when a rope on the makeshift lift he was using snapped and crashed to the ground from the fourth floor, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

It happened at a building under construction in Gufool on Monday.

A Labour Ministry spokesman confirmed an investigation had been launched into the cause of Abdullatif's death, who was reportedly not wearing any safety equipment.

Abdullatif had worked for the Dawood Salman Al Mudawib Contracting Company for the last 10 years and was said to be one of its best workers.

His body is expected to be repatriated home today.

"We will pay the expenses for repatriation and an air-ticket to his brother-in-law, who will accompany his body to Bangladesh," said a company spokesman.

"We are also going to financially support his family, as he leaves behind a wife and two children." - TradeArabia News Service
