Brazil food exports to region top $5bn

Dubai, February 20, 2014

Food exports from Brazil to Arab countries exceeded $5.2 billion in 2013, said the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce ahead of its participation in Gulfood 2014, kicking off next week in Dubai.

The food and hospitality show will run from February 23 to 27 at Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Apex-Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, is set to sponsor 19 companies from Brazil to participate in the event.

The 2014 edition will see bigger participation from the Brazilian players with an increase of almost 50 per cent from the previous year--reflecting the accelerated growth of the food and beverage sectors in Arab countries for Brazil.

Dr Michel Alaby, general secretary and CEO of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce said: “Gulfood is a perfect platform for the Brazilian companies to explore increasing business opportunities in the light of growing preference for their food products in the region. We have several options and vast varieties in food trading to address their requirements as well as criteria. The flourishing trade between the Arab Nations and Brazil is the reason for an increasingly large number of Brazilian exhibitors at the event.”

Most of the exporters will display their stands in the Brazilian pavilion, which will have more space because of more participants. The area of the pavilion is spread across 711 square meters while the mezzanine space is 311 sq m. This year will see the participation of 77 companies, an increase of 25 more than previous year’s 52. – TradeArabia News Service
