Bahrain urges speedy compensation to landowners

Manama, March 31, 2014

Bahrain's Premier has urged speedy compensation for anyone whose land or property was acquired for public projects.

He also directed ministers at yesterday's weekly Cabinet session to reduce fee burdens faced by small traders, contractors and owners of small and medium-sized businesses, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

At the meeting chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Cabinet also welcomed the dismissal of a labour complaint filed against Bahrain at the International Labour Organisation.

Efforts of the Labour Minister, as well as those of Bahrain's delegation comprising government representatives, employers and workers, confirmed the kingdom's respect for labourers and human rights.

The government will always be committed to the implementation of justice, equality and basic freedoms, the Cabinet emphasised.

Reimbursements must be made to owners stripped of their property and lands for public service purposes or projects, the Cabinet stated.

The Premier directed ministers to continue efforts to lighten the load of contractors, small traders and owners of small and medium enterprises, and streamline procedures to pay accumulated fees to Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) without hindering their activities.

The Labour Minister and LMRA chairman was advised to find ways to facilitate the procedures, support traders and submit a report to the Cabinet. - TradeArabia News Service
