Manama, May 22, 2014

Bahrain's Prime Minister has called for obstacles hampering trade activities to be removed. He directed an urgent upgrade of facilities at Manama Suq.

"Manama Suq stands as a symbol of long-standing trading heritage," he said, stressing the need to revitalise the market so that it could regain its status as a crucial pillar of the national economy.

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa visited the suq to inspect trade activities and identify the needs of this iconic market, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

He met businessmen Hussain bin Ali Yateem and Mubarak bin Jassim Kanoo and discussed key economic issues.

The Premier hailed the role of family-owned companies in supporting government-led initiatives to bolster growth.

He paid tribute to pioneering traders, who laid the foundations for Bahrain's economic growth, adding that citizens are now reaping the dividends of their hard work.

The Premier underscored the importance of preserving family-owned companies, which are playing a vital role in developing the country.

"Those who are bent on making Bahrain and its commercial area a hotbed of chaos and instability will lose thanks to the government's firm resolve and the honourable stances of the Bahraini people," he said.

The Premier commended the role of the Kanoo Group, describing them as a cornerstone of economic development and charity work.

Both the families hailed the Premier's keenness to strengthen trade activities, commending his fundamental role in Bahrain's economic success.
