Democracy 'vital pillar of Bahrain's development'

Manama, July 14, 2014

Individual rights and enhanced democracy are vital pillars in the Bahrain's programme of reform and development, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier said.

The kingdom is committed to upholding these principles in the firm interest of all Bahrainis under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad, he said during his visits to the majlises of Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh in Salmaniya and the Al Jalahma family in Riffa, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

He further stressed the importance of maintaining a gradual and sustainable approach to reform and development to continue expanding the kingdom's achievements and successes.

The Crown Prince added that principles of mutual respect in Bahrain's diverse society contribute significantly to the kingdom's ongoing development and long-term stability.

He emphasised how these principles serve to guard against external influences, enhanced by regional events and upheavals, which undermine the kingdom's efforts to support Bahrainis.

"His Majesty's visits across the country and various engagements with the kingdom's local communities will improve participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections, which is a right protected by the constitution. This right will only serve to increase the kingdom's political development," he said.

He also outlined the significant role of the members of parliament and the Shura Council, in enhancing democratic practices and expanding participation in the kingdom's wider development.

Benefits

The Crown Prince also emphasised the importance of strengthening co-ordination among the legislative, executive and judicial authorities.

"Strong co-ordination will help boost further development across the kingdom's vital sectors and improve government services.

It directly benefits Bahrain's citizens and reinforces principles of transparency and accountability."

He also stressed the importance of encouraging Bahrain's youth to improve academic performance and pursue higher education to enhance their contributions to Bahrain's society and compete in today's global economy.

The Crown Prince extended his best wishes to the people of Bahrain during the holy month and highlighted the role of Ramadan majlises in demonstrating the close bonds of Bahrain's society, which have helped maintain a clear commitment to the kingdom's values.

The people at the majlises expressed their gratitude for HRH the Crown Prince's visit and praised his commitment to providing a better quality life for all Bahrainis and furthering development across various sectors. - TradeArabia News Service
