Eye-Fi launches wi-fi memory cards

Dubai, August 19, 2014

Eye-Fi, a California-based company, has launched SD memory cards and SDHC cards with Wi-Fi capabilities.

Eye-Fi provides a memory card that turns standard cameras into connected devices enabling photos and videos to be transferred wirelessly to a mobile device for immediate upload on social media and email.

“The mobility landscape has been made much more competitive and complex by the proliferation of smartphones and innovation in connected technology. Eye-Fi is looking at mobile and connected devices as strategic imperatives in order for businesses to remain competitive, improve efficiency, increase ROI and drive results,” said Niels Van Der Valk, vice president of EMEA sales and marketing at Eye-Fi, global market leader in wireless SD memory cards.

Moreover, a 30-fold increase in internet-connected physical devices is expected by 2020, stated a report by Gartner, an American information technology research and advisory firm.

In addition, the internet of things (IoT) is forecast to reach 26 billion installed units by 2020, up from 0.9 billion five years ago. The trend, evident of a more connected era, will create a significant impact on supply chain operators in the industry, the report said.

“As a supply chain operator, the next few years are vital for us considering emerging trends in Wi-Fi standards. Gartner has predicted that over the next three years, demand on Wi-Fi infrastructure will increase as more Wi-Fi enabled devices appear on the market and as a result the opportunities enabled by these new standards will be limitless,” Van Der Valk said. – TradeArabia News Service
