Coffee exports from Brazil to Arab countries up 7pc

DUBAI, September 17, 2014

Coffee exports from Brazil to Arab countries hit 820,000, 60-kg bags of coffee during the seven months ending in July, up seven per cent as compared to the same period last year, according to a report.

The latest Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council report said that Brazil’s overall global coffee exports grossed over $2.45 billion during the prior, an increase of 11 per cent over last year.

The shipped volume stood at 20.56 million bags, demonstrating an 18.5 per cent increase, it said.

In July, the export revenues reached $557 million, representing an increase of 59 per cent and nearly three million bags were shipped during the month.

Industry analysts have pointed out that the good export volume figures from January to July can be attributed to good foreign sales performance, with Brazil reinforcing its 32 per cent global market share, said the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC).

Dr. Michel Alaby, general secretary and CEO, said: “Brazil’s excellent performance figures of coffee shipments to Arab countries and the rest of the world remain very positive and largely due to remaining inventory. The continuation of this favourable trend in months to come will hinge on the harvesting of the ongoing crop.”

The leading export targets for Brazilian coffee are the United States, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Japan. - TradeArabia News Service
