Bahrain-India to sign media agreement

Bahrain is set to sign an information and media agreement with India aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

The Cabinet yesterday (September 22) gave its initial approval to the proposed agreement presented by Minister of State for Information Affairs and official government spokeswoman Sameera Rajab, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

"The agreement aims to enhance co-operation between the two countries in numerous fields," said Rajab.

"We are looking for the exchange of expertise in the field of government communication and the promotion of government policies, exchange of radio and television programmes and exchange of expertise in the field of filmmaking and film production.

"It will also involve training and exchange of expertise in the field of information and communication and exchange of visits of journalists and media personnel between the two countries."

The Cabinet referred the agreement, which would be signed with India's Information and Broadcasting Ministry, to the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs for further review.

Meanwhile, initial approval was also given to a proposal by Rajab to obtain a licence to establish a monthly magazine specialising in educational activities in Bahrain.

The Cabinet was also briefed by Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro on the industrial companies located in the Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP).

There are currently 105 industrial projects that have been approved to be established at the BIIP, on a total area of 1,203,142 square meters.

"Journalists and media personnel are welcome to visit the place, which is continuously seeing development with state-of-the art companies opening there," added Rajab. - TradeArabia News Service
