Number of unmarried Saudi women 'increasing'

RIYADH, January 19, 2015

The number of Saudi women above the age of 30 who remain unmarried is increasing and the community must address this issue, an expert has said.

The number of unmarried Saudi women over 30 was 33.45 percent or 1.52 million of the total population of 4.57 million women, a report in Arab News quoting local media said.

Reports quoted Mohammed Al-Abdul Qadir, head of the Wiam Family Care Society, as saying there was a need for a “community engineering,” based on field studies.

He called on the experts to look for community-based solutions to ensure the stability of marriages by providing job opportunities and creation of joint ventures for couples through initiatives undertaken by both private and public sector companies.

The 7th forum of Saudi Family Care Societies, to be held in Dammam next month, will explore new researches and initiatives in this regard, he said in the report.
