Iran to boost industry, farming in China tie-ups

TEHRAN, January 21, 2015

Iran has entered into two partnerships with Chinese authorities in a move to set up an industrial park in the southern port city of Jask as well as expand cooperation in the agricultural sector, according to reports.

"Iran and China will set up an industrial park in Jask Port to establish and develop petrochemical, refining, aluminium and steel industries," Iran’s Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh was quoted as saying in the Iran Daily report, which cited Fars News Agency.

The two countries will jointly establish the industrial park, he added.

With this, Jask will become the country's second oil hub for exporting crude.
"Jask should turn into Iran's second hub for exporting oil," Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was quoted as saying during a recent visit to the southern province.

"By implementing the plan, oil exports won't rely on just one port and one place (Kharg Island) in the Persian Gulf and through the Strait of Hormuz, but these will also go through the Sea of Oman," he added.

Cooperation in the agri sector

Meanwhile, Iranian Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati and Chinese Agriculture Minister Han Changfu signed an agreement yesterday (January 20), aiming to expand cooperation in greenhouse gardening, fishery, animal husbandry, and poultry farming, according to a report in Tehran Times, which cited the IRNA news agency.

Trade between Iran and China amounted to $47.5 billion from January to November 2014, a 36 per cent rise year on year, according to the Chinese General Administration of Customs, the report said.
