Gas pipe blaze in Bahrain video emerges

MANAMA, February 13, 2015

Dramatic video footage of a blazing inferno in Sakhir, Bahrain emerged online yesterday (February 12).

The fire was sparked at a damaged gas pipe on Wednesday (February 11) night, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

One onlooker, who witnessed the blaze, captured the drama on camera and uploaded the footage online. The 15-second video shows plumes of thick black smoke filling the air and flames several metres high illuminating the night sky.

Tatweer Petroleum, which manages Bahrain Oil Field, stated that no injuries resulted from the fire and there was only minor damage to the affected pipe.

"Operations have returned to normal with the exception of the affected facility and investigations are ongoing.

"Safety is Tatweer Petroleum's number one priority. The company works closely with the Southern Governorate and has continuously communicated the dangers of being in close proximity to the Bahrain Oil Field operations.

"It urges the general public and campers to remain well away from oil and gas facilities and to comply with the exclusion zones that have been previously communicated." - TradeArabia News Service
