Bahrain to import meat from select group

MANAMA, February 22, 2015

Bahrain has decided to import meat only from a select group of slaughterhouses in Australia, a Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Ministry official said yesterday (February 21).

The 50 slaughterhouses have been certified by the European Union and Saudi Arabia, under-secretary for agriculture and marine resources Shaikh Khalifa bin Isa Al Khalifa was quoted as saying in the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The ministry has also agreed with the Bahrain Livestock Company (BLC) on new ways to regulate transportation of livestock and frozen meat to enhance safety standards.

A ship carrying 30,000 heads of Australian sheep is to arrive in Bahrain today, BLC chairman Ibrahim Zainal said. More supplies are expected by early next week. – TradeArabia News Service
