Bahrain SMEs want 24/7 dispute resolution courts

MANAMA, March 7, 2015

By RAJI UNNIKRISHNAN

Businessmen in Bahrain want to open a specialised, round-the-clock dispute resolution court in a bid to fast-track settlements, said a report.

The suggestion to have an independent court at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry headquarters in Sanabis has been put forward by its small and medium enterprises committee, reported The Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

Chamber vice-chairman Hamed Fakhro said committee members wanted authorities to set up a corporate judicial system to tackle issues like liquidation of assets, claims against employers and debts.

'Many cases like liquidation of assets, claims against employees or employers, salary issues, debts and bounced cheques can take years to resolve in court,' he said.

'The suggestion is to create an independent 24/7 business resolution court in collaboration with the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry.

'With this system business disputes could be settled quickly, efficiently and safely. This can work alongside the Bahrain Dispute Resolution Chamber to improve Bahrain's reputation as a business friendly hub,' Fakhro said.-TradeArabia News Service
