6-month shrimping ban shelved in Bahrain

MANAMA, June 30, 2015

The decision to extend the ban on shrimping to six months has been put off until next year in Bahrain.

The Premier yesterday (June 29) issued an order maintaining the current four-month ban for this year, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Fisheries officials were also directed to conduct comprehensive studies on promoting marine resources, particularly shrimps.

The Premier stressed the government’s support to Bahraini fishermen and keenness to develop their sources of
income.

He reiterated the government’s firm resolve to protect fisheries, being a vital living source for a large segment of society and key pillar of food security. - TradeArabia News Service
