Saudi women voters head to historic polls

RIYADH, December 12, 2015

A total of 1,486,477 Saudis head to polls today (December 12) to take part in the third session of the municipal elections in Saudi Arabia.

Polling stations will remain open from 8 am to 5 pm for people to cast their votes in the elections. Women will have the opportunity to take part for the first time as voters and candidates, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The Saudi authorities had decided to lower the voting age from 21 to 18 so as to ensure to a wider voting base.
