Majid Al Futtaim launches Ramadan donation drive

MANAMA, June 12, 2016

Majid Al Futtaim, a leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena), has launched its 10th annual ‘Make a Difference’ Ramadan Campaign, encouraging local communities to donate a selection of items at its shopping malls, leisure and entertainment destinations and Carrefour stores to help families in need.

During Ramadan, Majid Al Futtaim will place special donation boxes in convenient locations in all of its destinations across Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, and the UAE, encouraging visitors to donate everyday essentials including books, clothes, foods, toys and electronics, said a company statement.

Alain Bejjani, the chief executive officer, Majid Al Futtaim – Holding said: "In line with our vision to ‘Create Great Moments for Everyone, Everyday,’ the Ramadan campaign brings us together with local communities to support those in need during the holy month."

"For ten years, we have seen the campaign help capture the true spirit of Ramadan amongst communities, and motivate individuals and families to make a difference by helping those less fortunate. This continues to be one of our most successful annual charity activations and we hope to increase donations once again this year," he added.

Across the region, Majid Al Futtaim partners with charitable organisations such as the Islamic Association in Bahrain, Life Makers in Egypt, Bassma in Lebanon, Dar Al-Atta in Oman, and Red Crescent in the UAE, ensuring timely and appropriate distribution of all donated goods through their humanitarian network during Ramadan.

Last year, the company collected more than 36 tons of donated items, which were distributed to families in need across the region through its humanitarian aid partners.

“Thanks to Majid Al Futtaim’s annual charity initiative, and City Centre Bahrain’s ideal platform reaching millions of visitors, The Islamic Association will be able to provide great support to families in need. We would like to thank everyone that will be donating this Ramadan, and are hoping to exceed previous years’ results,” said Shaikh Dr Abdullatif Al Mahmoud, the chairman for The Islamic Association.

Starting on the first day of Ramadan and continuing into Eid, the ‘Make a Difference’ Ramadan Campaign will provide easily accessible donation points at Majid Al Futtaim assets across the region, including Mall of the Emirates and City Centre malls.

Collection points can also be found in participating Carrefour, Magic Planet, Ski Dubai and VOX Cinemas. Furthermore, customers can make donations through Najm, Majid Al Futtaim’s Visa credit card, said the statement.

Bejjani said for the seventh consecutive year in the Kingdom, Majid Al Futtaim’s regional Ramadan campaign will encourage visitors to donate to the less fortunate.

City Centre Bahrain’s visitors will be able to give new or gently used goods such as clothes, toys, books and non-perishable food items in specially marked bins located at the Customer Service Desk.

Collected items will then be donated to local charitable and humanitarian organisation The Islamic Association, supporting local communities in need. Last year, more than 9,500 bags of donations were distributed across the charity’s humanitarian channels, warming the hearts of thousands of families.

Duaij Khalifa Al Rumaihi, the senior mall manager for City Centre Bahrain, said: “Ramadan is a time for peace, togetherness and solidarity. City Centre Bahrain’s visitors will be able to truly make a difference and help communities in need, while enjoying the ambiance of this sacred period of the year with our beautiful themed décor and Arabic hospitality."

"As part of Majid Al Futtaim’s promise to create great moments for everyone, everyday, we will also feature traditional entertainment and host an exciting Gergaoun event that will make little ones all smiles," he added.

On Monday (June 20) in conjunction with the Ministry of Social Development, City Centre Bahrain will be hosting its traditional Gergaoun celebrations, from 9pm to midnight.

Inviting all families to participate, the lifestyle destination encourages little ones to come in their colourful traditional outfits as they will collect candies and nuts from participating retailers, while live traditional band with the ‘Fraisah’ will tour inside the mall with the kids.-TradeArabia News Service
