Dicaprio interviews President Barack Obama

NatGeo Abu Dhabi to premier Dicaprio's climate change documentary

ABU DHABI, October 28, 2016

National Geographic Abu Dhabi is set to premiere ‘Before the Flood,’ a 96-minute documentary that captures Academy Award-winning actor and UN Messenger of Peace Leonardo DiCaprio’s inspiring journey as he outlines the real impact of climate change.

Created over a two-year period, the documentry unveils the shocking reality of climate change, including increasing dangers of temperature rise and drought in regions such as the Middle East.

Before the Flood premieres Sunday, 30th October, 2016 at 10.00 pm on National Geographic Abu Dhabi and at 10:30 pm on Emirates TV channel. The documentary will also be airing on the same day in English on all National Geographic Channels as well as on Star Movies. The airing will be commercial-free and the film will be made available online for one week after the premiere so that the widest possible viewership can become aware of the imminent challenges posed by climate change.

DiCaprio interviews individuals from every facet of society in both developing and developed nations who provide unique, impassioned and pragmatic views on what must be done today to prevent and lessen the impact of climate change. Key interviewees include a range of global leaders such as President Barack Obama, Former President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State John Kerry, Pope Francis, Ellon Musk and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, as well as top NASA researchers, forest conservationists, revered scientists, community leaders and fervent activists working to save the world.

Audiences are presented with visual evidence of a worsening environmental crisis that is inflicting irreversible damage on pristine landscapes from Greenland to Indonesia, disturbing the balance of our planet’s climate and hastening the extinction of beloved animals. The film presents an informative and engaging account of how society can prevent the demise of endangered species, ecosystems and native communities across the globe.

“Climate change is the most fundamental threat facing our planet,” said DiCaprio. “We must work together as a collective voice to demand major action now. Our very survival depends on it. This documentary translates the symptoms and solutions of climate change before information is distorted, as it often is, by those with a financial interest in fossil fuel production.”

Abdul Hadi Al Sheikh, executive director of the Department of Television at Abu Dhabi Media, said: “Before the Flood highlights the core purpose of National Geographic Abu Dhabi which is to raise awareness about our world and the environment. Abu Dhabi Media is proud to support Before the Flood as it is also part of our CSR policy to create audience awareness of the challenges of climate change and related issues. Our partnership with National Geographic Abu Dhabi has led to the airing of this inspiring documentary on our TV channel networks at the same day as internationally.”

Sanjay Raina, general manager, National Geographic Abu Dhabi Mena said: “National Geographic Abu Dhabi has a long history of inspiring others to care about the planet. Climate change is a pressing issue which we need to act upon immediately rather than sometime in the future. Before the Flood is an eye opener and a must watch as it puts climate change in the front seat and inspires us to act now.”
