Nakheel has a date with dates; 3,500 kg donated

DUBAI, August 22, 2019

Dubai-based master developer Nakheel is teaming up with the Dar Al Ber Society to distribute more than 3,500 kg of dates to people in need.

Nakheel has picked, dried and packaged around 400,000 dates from more than 500 palm trees at Al Ittihad Park on Palm Jumeirah, for delivery across the country.

Around 1,000 boxes, each containing around up to 400 dates and weighing an average 3.5 kg, were prepared during the harvest season before being handed over to the Dar Al Ber Society for distribution.

Fawzi El Shehhi, managing director, Nakheel community management and planning, said: “We are proud to build on our long-standing partnership with Dar Al Ber to help people in need.
This initiative is particularly special as the dates being donated are from the trees at our flagship project, Palm Jumeirah, which itself is the shape of our national plant, the date palm.”

Mohammed Suhail Almuhairi, Dar Al Ber Society Board Member said: “We are proud to be chosen by Nakheel for this wonderful initiative, which highlights our shared commitment to community values and to helping those in need. We are extremely grateful to Nakheel for supplying the dates, which will provide a healthy, nutritious addition to the daily meals of people less fortunate than ourselves.”

Opened in 2012, the 1.1-million-sq-foot Al Ittihad Park on Palm Jumeirah is the region’s first indigenous park, containing more than 60 varieties of trees, plants and shrubs native to the UAE, as well as 530 date palm trees.  – TradeArabia News Service
