UAE Sustainable Agriculture System launched

ABU DHABI, June 29, 2020

The UAE Sustainable Agriculture System has been launched, which is a practical step that reflects the vision and directions of the leadership towards enhancing the UAE’s food security agenda.

Mariam Almheiri, Minister of State for Food Security, highlighting its array of advantages, affirmed that the UAE’s technologically advanced domestic food production ecosystem achieves the goals of sustainability and the protection of the environment in order to preserve the country’s precious natural resources for future generations.

“Sustainability is a national and global trend to develop various vital sectors, including the food sector, while preserving the environment and natural resources. Sustainability in food security cuts down waste and addresses the challenges facing the sector, the most significant of which for the UAE is fresh water scarcity,” she stressed.

“Agtech is a practical tool to strengthen the UAE system for sustainable agriculture, with closed environment agriculture (CEA’s) systems reducing the amount of water used to irrigate crops by up to 90%. The UAE Sustainable Agriculture System will distinguish products of local origin, facilitate their marketing and raise the level of consumer confidence, thereby encouraging customers to switch to responsible consumption,” she added.

"The forging of strategic partnerships forms a main plank of The UAE Sustainable Agriculture System and the Food Security Office is working with all concerned parties to enhance the UAE’s food security and increase local production with advanced technology and minimal use of resources. This strategic direction for the UAE aims to enhance food security, improve the quality of community life, and create a prosperous and food secure future for forthcoming generations,” she concluded. -- Tradearabia News Service
