VW models to debut at Geneva show
Geneva, March 4, 2008
Volkswagen is gearing up for the world premiere of five of its models at the Geneva Motor Show to be held from the March 6 to 16.
At center stage will be the Scirocco; a completely re-developed all-round sports car. Also debuting on the global stage is the Golf TDI Hybrid; this concept car consumes just 3.4 litres diesel per 100 km, said a company press release.
Representing a technological jump when it comes to natural gas drives is the world premiere of the 150 PS strong Passat Variant TSI EcoFuel.
Additionally, Volkswagen will be presenting a world premiere of the extremely fuel-efficient Sharan BlueMotion (6.0 liters fuel consumption) and the all-wheel drive Golf Variant 4Motion. The Passat CC will also appear for the first time on European soil.
Scirocco – world premiere
The first generation of the Scirocco was originally presented to a world audience in Geneva 34 years ago.
Now Volkswagen is celebrating the comeback of the legendary two-door car. Thanks to its extended wagon-coupé roof, it offers space for four adults, making it the sports car for every day of the year, the release said.
The Scirocco is powered by four TDI and TSI engines that are as torque-strong as they are fuel-efficient. They cover a power range from 90 kW / 122 PS to 147 kW / 200 PS. The new sports car will be offered with numerous innovative technologies such as adaptive chassis control.
Passat CC – European premiere
After its world premiere in the USA, Volkswagen is now presenting the Passat CC for the first time in Europe. Identifying features: coupé design yet four doors, impressive comfort yet pure dynamics, sporty interior yet spacious without compromise.
The model has special features such as the “Lane Assist” lane keeping system and a new “adaptive chassis control”.
Golf TDI Hybrid – world premiere
In the Golf TDI Hybrid Volkswagen is demonstrating the great energy-saving potential that is possible when high-tech diesel, E-motor and 7-speed DSG are combined.
The concept car that is being shown for the first time in the world at the Geneva Motor Show consumes just 3.4 liters diesel per 100 km. Designed as a high-performance full hybrid, the Golf TDI Hybrid masters both pure combustion and mixed mode operation – that is, the powerful and fuel-efficient combination of TDI and E-motor.
The Passat Variant TSI EcoFuel – which is being shown for the first time in Geneva – is initiating a whole new era of natural gas powered cars.
Volkswagen is also continuing its BlueMotion offensive in 2008. The latest model: the Sharan BlueMotion being shown as a world premiere in Geneva. The Sharan BlueMotion consumes 0.7 litre less fuel than the “conventional” model.
Volkswagen is also offering the Golf Variant with full-time all-wheel drive. In extreme situations up to 100 per cent of the propulsive force can be transferred to the rear wheels.-TradeArabia News Service
