The newly-introduced Nissan Xterra is receiving numerous positive ratings for its performance.

Nissan’s rugged SUV has undergone several tests including the recent off-road comparison test by Car and Driver magazine, said an official spokesman.

The Nissan Xterra has come out tops in the gruelling off-road test by the authoritative US motoring magazine. It was rated first among four other competitive vehicles in a rough trail with a ‘Category Four rating’.

Drivers negotiated rocks larger than six inches, mud and sand deep enough to require lowering tyre pressures, stream crossings, narrow rock shelves and loose surfaces, along with an 89 kph wind mixed with sand: enough to test the ruggedness of any vehicle.

At the end of the trail, the testers reported that “the Nissan Xterra prevailed because, no matter what we threw at it, it remained friendly, flexible and practical.”

“Where our three other SUVs were a little too single-skilled, the new Nissan Xterra proved talented at all stages. You can see it in the shortest and narrowest of stats: it's the quartet; a huge asset on narrow trails,” the spokesman added.
 
The test was for four SUVs: it proved to be the best among the four during narrow trails.

It offers 24 centimetres of ground clearance, the most horsepower, a 7.0-second 0-to-60 time, the highest emergency-lane-change speed and the best-bserved fuel economy.
