Bahrain Formula One track set for expansion

Manama, April 7, 2014

Bahrain's Formula One track has been earmarked for expansion.

It follows the introduction of a state-of-the-art floodlight system, which made its debut last night during the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The Minister of State for Information Affairs said yesterday that additional development was in the pipeline.

"It is clear that the BIC has entered a new era with the installation of the floodlights, which is just the beginning of many new advancements at the venue during phase two, which will be announced later," said Sameera Rajab after the Cabinet meeting.

"Anyone can visit the BIC to see for their own eyes what has been done to make the place become more attractive and new plans will see further development carried out.

"We are working to attract major festivities in future that doesn't just include the glamorous F1 or other sporting events.

"For that we are looking to utilise more space at the BIC in the best way possible."

The Cabinet congratulated organisers of the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix for a successful event, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of the BIC and was watched by more than 500 million viewers around the world. - TradeArabia News Service
