Bahrain PM urges clamp on bad drivers

Manama, May 26, 2014

A crackdown was yesterday ordered on drivers who threaten people's lives and flout rules in Bahrain.

Chairing the weekly Cabinet session, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa ordered zero tolerance against drivers who jump red lights, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Tough measures will also be taken against motorists who drive on pavements to avoid long queues at traffic lights or violate no-entry road signs.

The Premier directed the ministries of Works and Interior to fast-track fibre optic intelligent traffic systems to reduce waiting ordeals and ensure smooth flow of traffic.

The ministries of Interior and Education were also directed to strengthen security near school entrances to avert accidents.

Ministers also heard that Bahrain's real state revenues increased by 5.5 per cent, or BD153 million ($405.6 million), to average BD2.9 billion last year.

The figures were released as the Cabinet approved the Consolidated Final Account of the State, for last year.

The Cabinet was also told that the jobs market continued to rebound with the national workforce growing by 3.9 per cent to top 154,000 in the first quarter of this year, up from 148,000 in the same period last year. - TradeArabia News Service
