Dubai launches pin system for vehicle registration

Dubai, June 17, 2014

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to introduce a new security system under which motorists can nominate another person for any work related to their vehicle licensing.

The new service, called the Personal Appearance Service, requires customers to attend Customer Service Centres just once to register their details in full, said a statement from RTA.

Afterwards a short text message will be sent to their mobile phones conveying a Personal Identification Number (PIN) enabling the customer to dispatch a person on his or her behalf to process various transactions related to vehicles licensing.

The RTA said the new system will be introduced across the emirate by its vehicles licensing department starting from this month.

Mohammed Abdul Karim Nimaat, the director of Vehicles Licensing, RTA Licensing Agency, said: "This service is a first-of-its-kind in the region enabling the processing of business processes and transactions in a smooth manner without obliging the concerned individual to attend in person."

Explaining the system, Karim Nimaat said: "This process will be applied after completing registration of customers details in full at the centers, and sending an SMS to the concerned customer conveying a PIN through which the customer can delegate anyone deemed appropriate to process his or her transaction."

"Then the used PIN will be abolished and a new PIN will be issued for another transaction in order to ensure higher degree of security. Transactions relate to all matters of relevance to vehicles licensing such as vehicle registration, vehicle export, vehicle transfer, vehicle transport, and selling vehicle number plate among others," he added.

The launch of the new scheme conforms to the electronic drive of the RTA; which is an integral part of the vision of the supreme leadership of the UAE; which places much emphasis on switching all electronic transactions & services to the Smart Mode, and benefiting from the self-operated channels highlighted by the mobile phone which make it easy for customers to process their transactions in a smooth and hassle-free manner.

Karim Nimaat said: "The one-time attendance service at service centers has other benefits including exempting the concerned customers from going through the previous procedure i.e. the preparation of a Power of Attorney from the Notary Public authorizing another person to undertake the tasks and perform various transactions."

"Such an exercise used to take long time and Vehicles Licensing Dep’t has therefore opted to embark on this electronic drive to keep pace with the new technologies which can also boost customers satisfaction rating," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
