F1 in Schools World Finals will see 38 teams of racing enthusiasts representing 40 countries compete

Abu Dhabi to host F1 in Schools World Finals

ABU DHABI, November 12, 2014

F1 in Schools World Finals 2014, the world’s biggest school competition, is set to take place at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi from November 16 to 18, just days ahead of the 2014 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Student teams participating in F1 in Schools will race miniature cars that they have self-designed and manufactured, in a series of competitive track competitions and will enjoy a week in the capital with a range of exciting activities and tours to explore the popular landmarks of the UAE.

Kicking off the celebrations, F1 in Schools World Finals will see 38 teams of racing enthusiasts representing 40 countries compete for the ultimate title of F1 in Schools Champion. The mega challenge’s finalists were selected from more than 20 million students, all of whom had taken part in national contests and judged to the best in class and ‘Top Guns’, it said.

Jesse Vargas, general manager at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, said: “It gives us great pleasure to host the F1 in Schools World Finals 2014 at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi again this year. Initiatives of such a global scale help cultivate science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education amongst students in a more fun, challenging and exciting environment and motivate bright young minds by providing them the platform they need to be part of this exciting industry.”

Vargas added: “At Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, every member of our engineering team is driven by passion and inspired by the innovation inherent in the world’s most successful racing brand. We would like to extend this passion to the youngsters today as we are committed in our efforts to help pave the way for a new generation of talent, and will continue to be at the forefront of inspiring innovative learning methodologies in the UAE.”

Announced during the F1 in Schools World Finals 2013 held in Austin, Texas (US), Ferrari World Abu Dhabi was nominated as hosting venue for the second time after 2012’s World Finals. Andrew Denford, founder and chairman, F1 in Schools, said: “It's great to be heading back to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi! It feels like the natural home for F1 in Schools giving the students the thrill of the F1 inspired rides and attractions in the park alongside the excitement of our competition. The World Finals teams loved it in 2012 and this year’s event will also allow the students to experience all the excitement around the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at once!”
