Dubai taxis lift record 45 million riders in Q1

DUBAI, May 5, 2017

The number of riders using taxi service in Dubai, UAE has clocked 44.88 million riders who were served in 25.79 million trips during the first quarter of 2017.

The CEO of Public Transport Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Abdullah Yousef Al Ali said: “Lifting 44.88 million riders during the first quarter of this year is indicative of the huge demand for the service. It is a result of improvements we regularly introduce to taxis such as the offering of multiple means of fare payment (cash or credit cards), or training cab drivers to improve their attitudes & practices.

This enormous number of riders was served in 25.59million trips run during the first quarter of 2017 by franchise companies, which have 10,038 vehicles in operation. The service breakdown during the period was as follows: Dubai Taxi served 21.05 million riders in 12.98 million trips.

Arabia Taxi lifted 4.41 million in 2.56 million trips. Cars Taxi served 9.24 million riders in 5.31 million trips.

Metro Taxi served 3.47 million riders in 1,995,090 trips, National Taxi lifted 6.54 million riders in 3.75 million trips, and City Taxi offered services to 172,121 riders in 98,920 trips.

“The RTA leadership accords considerable attention to the taxi service run by Public Transport Agency as the service offers privacy sought by a large number of users. Efforts made in this field and other mass transit services aim at realising RTA’s third strategic objective (People Happiness) and vision (Safe & Smooth Transport for All),” Al Tayer added. – TradeArabia News Service
