MG Motor achieves safety ratings for two new models

DUBAI, January 14, 2020

British automotive brand MG Motor has been awarded five-star Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program) safety ratings for two of its new models, the pure electric MG ZS EV and the all-new MG HS, both of which are now on sale across the Middle East.

The MG ZS EV becomes the first pure electric small SUV in Europe to meet Euro NCAP five-star safety standards. In addition, the MG HS has also obtained ANCAP (Australian New Car Assessment Program) five-star safety certification, making it the brand’s first SUV to achieve "double five-star" safety standards in both Europe and Australia, said a company statement.

MG is embracing the New Energy Vehicle world, and has already showcased this commitment through the successful introduction of the MG ZS EV in Europe and the UK, where it has enjoyed an overwhelming response from customers, as well in the Middle East where it was unveiled last month, it added.

Tom Lee, managing director for MG Motor Middle East, said: “We are benefitting hugely from the brand’s global commitment to be at the forefront of new energy development. Now, as the region’s major cities focus on becoming the smartest and most sustainable in the world, we can contribute to that vision of the future with our first-ever 100 per cent electric vehicle.

“The MG ZS EV is based on our compact SUV model, which has proved to be very popular in the region, especially in Saudi Arabia where it was our second best-seller last year. After extensive hot weather testing, and a robust development programme I am very pleased to say we have an appealing, stylish and innovative electric vehicle for the region,” he added.

The new MG HS possesses the looks of a SUV but the soul of a sports car. Key to the sporty nature of the HS is its 231HP 2.0 Litre Turbo petrol engine, mated to a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox, which is more powerful than any of the powerplants offered by the competitors.

Along with a Super Sport button, bucket racing seats and red racing calipers, all these edgy functions celebrate MG’s sporting heritage with this state-of-the-art SUV. As with all MGs, it is extremely well equipped, but its unique character differentiates it from other cars on the market, as well as other SUVs in the MG line-up.

MG Motor has been expanding across the Middle East and now has a network of dedicated retail partners across the Gulf region, boasting 25 modern showrooms and 24 service centres.

The new MG ZS EV is now available to order, subject to market, with first deliveries having taken place from January, it added. – TradeArabia News Service
