KNPC labour union calls for oil strike

Kuwait City, October 15, 2008

A Kuwaiti oil labour union on Wednesday called on "all workers in all sectors" to go on a strike at state refiner Kuwait National Petroleum Co (KNPC).

"The board of directors for KNPC Labour Syndicate urges all employees and workers to stage a total strike in all sectors and be present in the headquarters of the syndicate...on Sunday at 0700 (local time)," the union said in a statement.

The union said it wanted better pay and promotions for its staff.

KNPC spokesman Mohammad Al-Ajmi had no immediate comment on the strike when Reuters called. - Reuters
