Oman to launch 'save electricity' campaign
Muscat, June 1, 2009
The Sultanate of Oman is gearing up to launch its first nation-wide summer electricity and water saving campaign.
Oman minister for national economy Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki will kick off the campaign tomorrow (June 2) in the presence of ministers and senior officials from the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) and Electricity Holding Company (EHC).
The awareness drive, being spearheaded by the PAEW and the EHC, is aimed at educating the public on saving electricity and water during summer and also provide simple tips in this regard.
PAEW and EHC chairman Mohammad Abdullah Al Mahrouqi and EHC chief executive Karl Matacz will be at the launch event to give details of how the campaign will be implemented.
Nationwide advertising and publicity initiatives will encourage both families and commercial organizations to be smarter in their use of water and electricity for the long-term benefit of the country.
The campaign will help them cut down utility bills in the summer months when demand for electricity and water peaks as temperatures reach their maximum, the organisers added.-TradeArabia News Service
