Equate wins HSE Gold award again

Kuwait, May 16, 2010

Equate Petrochemical Company has won the Gold Award in the Manufacturing
(Hydrocarbon) Category of the prestigious GCC Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Excellence Award 2010, for the second time.

“This success is mainly due to the commitment of Equate employees to prioritise the application of HSE best practices. Such prioritizing involved the introduction of several steps that included HSE programs, Six Sigma projects and decreasing Recordable Injury Rate (RIR),” said Equate president and chief executive Hamad Al-Terkait.

“Through unwavering commitment, Equate has achieved over 22 million Safe Work Hours (SWH), which is a true World Class record,” noted Al-Terkait.

“To sustain its continuous success, Equate launched a number of EH&S initiatives, such as the Gulf’s first CO2 emission reduction project, Kuwait’s first seawater cooling towers, an advanced Sulfur Recovery Unit, and an in-house developed Emergency Services System. In addition, Equate implements its own unique set of EH&S policies, guidelines and regulations that go beyond what is required by Kuwait’s regulatory bodies,” added Equate Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) department leader Faisal Malallah.

The award is organised by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Kuwait Chapter.-TradeArabia News Service
