Mena power projects, personalities honoured

Outstanding power projects and energy personalities in the Mena region were honoured at the Middle East Electricity Awards 2014 in Dubai.
The awards are a part of the Middle East Electricity and Solar Middle East which concludes today (February 13) at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
An independent jury of industry experts selected 25 shortlisted entries across eight categories from a record amount of submissions, said a statement.
Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority’s advisor Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi was named the ‘Power Personality of the Year’ and Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality was awarded as the ‘Green Champion of the Year’ for his contribution to a number of green initiatives within the emirate.
The ‘Power Project of the Year Award’ was won by Altaaqa Global Cat Rental Power for the 54 mega-watt power plant installed in Aden.
Ahmad Matar Khalifa Alsuwaidi from Dubai Aluminum was named the ‘Young Engineer of the Year,’ while the ‘Lighting Project of the Year’ went to the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport for the Ras Al Akhdar Bainoonah Street Lighting project.
The ‘Solar Project of the Year’ was awarded to First Solar for Phase 1 of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park project.
Anita Mathews, director of Informa Energy Group, organisers of the event, said: “The awards encourage best practice and recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals whose projects have set new standards of excellence and inspired others to follow.
“The judges were very impressed with the wide range of entries this year. The scope of work presented for critique was diverse, thought-provoking and is a testament to the health of the industry, as well as the growth we can expect to see in the coming years.”
The 2015 edition the event will take place from February 3 to 5 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, she added. - TradeArabia News Service
