Orpic to lead Omani firms at ArabPlast Dubai

MUSCAT, December 18, 2014

Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orphic) is set to lead a number of Omani companies participating at the ArabPlast Dubai 2015 depicting the rising importance of the sector in the Sultanate.

The plastic exhibition and conference will run from January 10 to 13 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, jointly organised by Al-Fajr Information and Service Company and German company Messe Dusseldorf.

Oman has about 7.4 per cent of GCC’s petrochemical capacity, according to Satish Khanna, general manager of Al-Fajr.

The exhibition will highlight the current and future industry developments in the Middle East and the world, against the backdrop of the Gulf petrochemical sector gaining global prominence in the past five year, as 11 per cent of the world’s petrochemical demand come from the GCC region, he said.

Jeen Joshua, group project manager of ArabPlast, said that Oman’s petrochemical sector at 9.5 million tonnes of productionlast year, and it is the third largest in GCC, behind Saudi Arabia and Qatar which have 86.4 million and 16.8 million tonnes of capacity respectively.

Oman’s capacity is set to increase by an additional 1.1 million tonnes of polyethylene and polypropylene from Orpic’s Liwa Plastics Project, said Faisal Al Hajri, a senior polymer marketing expert at Orpic.

“As in the past, the show promises to be very insightful as it will discuss latest challenges confronting the plastics sector in the region through a group of experts and economists,” said Khanna.

Companies participating in the ArabPlast will exhibit latest industrial plastic and rubber technologies that meet the market trends in the Middle East. There will be tough competition between the companies to exhibit their latest plastics products, he added. - TradeArabia News Service
