Deep gas drilling at Bahrain field on track

MANAMA, December 31, 2014

A project which entails drilling deeper for gas onshore in the Bahrain Field is progressing well, it has emerged.

This follows a visit by Energy Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza to the site of Deep Gas Well (BD-1), said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

During his visit, the minister saw a presentation on the project in terms of objectives, engineering design and timeframe given by US company Occidental Petroleum, the contractor for the deep drilling project.

Dr Mirza was accompanied by Bapco chairman, board members, management and officials from the oil and gas sector. This was followed by a tour of the well-site facilities and equipment.

The Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement was signed in February 2011 with Occidental Petroleum and was designed specifically to explore and drill deep reservoirs.

This is in line with initiatives and policies aimed at fulfilling the needs of the gas sector in Bahrain and facing the growing demand for energy. - TradeArabia News Service
