Gulf of Suez power project tender extended

CAIRO, January 28, 2015

Egypt has extended the deadline to submit bids for a 250-MW project being tendered in the Gulf of Suez under a build, own and operate contract, to March 18, a report said.

After 10 groups qualified in 2010, the main tender, which was issued early 2013, had an initial deadline of January 30, 2014. It was then extended to November 18 before being pushed back again, according to the report in Wind Power Monthly.

Meanwhile, a total of 36 companies were picked to build wind power projects of 20 to 50 MW in the first round of a tender for independent power producers, the report said.

The government will inform the developers of the exact capacities and the next steps to be taken later this week, an official from Egypt's New and Renewable Energy Authority was quoted as saying in the report.
