Power cut hits Bapco...failure in gas turbine power generator

Bapco five-hour power cut 'minor'

MANAMA, May 12, 2015

A five-hour power cut hit Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) yesterday (May 11) due to a failure in a gas turbine power generator.

The company said in a statement that the refinery experienced a "minor" loss of power around 8am before it was gradually restored by noon, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

"The protection systems automatically implemented a load shedding programme of non-essential users, to protect critical process units within the facility. It worked effectively and successfully, and there was no interruption to crude processing or refinery production."

Some non-operational users also experienced a temporary loss of power throughout the morning, it added.

Bapco said it would review its processes in light of the power cut, to better understand the cause of the problem and implement remedial action to prevent a re-occurrence. - TradeArabia News Service
