Oman confirms working petroleum system in Block 50
MUSCAT, May 3, 2016
Masirah Oil, which owns and operates Block 50 offshore Oman’s eastern seaboard, has confirmed the presence of ‘working petroleum system’ in the 17,000-sq-km concession, a report said.
The declaration came last week following the completion of the drilling of the Manarah-1 well, added the Oman Observer report.
“Manarah-1 well’s confirmation of the source rock and a working petroleum system in Block 50 gives us great encouragement and important information towards our deeper understanding of the 17,000 sq km block,” Dr Rabi Bastia, an advisor at Masirah Oil, was quoted as saying in the report.
During a 48-hour test, hydrocarbons were flowed to the surface and the well achieved a light oil flow rate of up to 3,000 stock tank barrels per day (stb/d) with no water production, the report said.
The Block is estimated to have gross mean unrisked prospective resources of 4.7 billion barrels of oil equivalent, according to the report.
