Iran 'self-reliant' in petchem facilities construction

TEHRAN, July 24, 2016

Iran, by raising the potential of its experts and technicians, has become self-sufficient in the construction of petrochemical facilities, said a senior official in a report.

The country no longer has any need for foreign companies in this regard, managing director of Kavian Petrochemical Facility Ramezan Oladi was quoted as saying in an Iran Daily News report, citing Shana.

He added that Phase Two of Kavian Petrochemical Facility has become operational and with the development of South Pars phases there would no longer be any dearth in meeting ethane feedstock and from 2018 there will be no feedstock shortage, rather there will be a surplus.

Oladi said that Phase Two of Kavian Petrochemical Facility, which is a major ethylene producer in the country and a big ethylene production facility worldwide, has made it possible to meet the feedstock of new petrochemical facilities and raise production.

He further noted that with the second phase of the facility becoming operational, ethylene production will increase to two million tons per year.

Altogether 11 petrochemical facilities use feedstock from Kavian petrochemical facility including Lorestan, Andimeshk, Mahabad, Miandoab and Ilam petrochemical facilities, said the official.

He noted that about 70 per cent of the equipment for the petrochemical facility is produced domestically and only sensitive tools like rotating equipment is supplied by German Siemens Company, added the report.
