$255m Morocco wind farm to set up 60 turbines

A 200 MW wind farm valued at MD2.6 billion ($255 million) in Morocco has received the go ahead to install 60 turbines over 2,557 hectares in Jbel Lahdid, a report said.

The project will be run by the Moroccan Agency of Solar Energy (MASEN) and the Office National de l’Electricité et de l’Eau Potable Electricity- Branch (ONEE-BE), reported Morocco World News.

The wind power generated from this farm will replace the equivalent of 158,103 tonnes of oil, the report said, adding that it is also expected to cut CO2 emissions by 475,200 tonnes per year.

It will be financed by the European Investment Bank in the amount of 200 million euros ($214 million). The rest of the amount will be financed by German development bank (130 million euros), the African Development Bank ($31 million and 40 million euros) and the European Union (15 million euros), according to the report.
