Oil spill brought under control in Sharjah

SHARJAH, April 4, 2017

An oil spill in the southern shore of Kalba city in the eastern region of Sharjah emirate has been brough under control, officials said.
 
Hana Saif Al Suwiadi, chairperson of the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority in Sharjah, was quoted by Wam news agency as saying teams of competent authorities have managed to bring  about 80 per cent of the spill under control.
 
Al Suwaidi made the remarks during a meeting attended by representatives of the authority, Sharjah Police, Sharjah Centre of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, Kalba Municipal Council, Kalba Municipality, Armed Forces, Coast Guard. The meeting discussed various ideas and proposals to assess the oil spill.
 
She noted that the oil spill might have been caused by a variety of crude oil from tankers, wells, marine platforms and refined petroleum products such as gasoline and diesel.
