Dewa, Engie in key co-operation talks

DUBAI, November 20, 2018

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) recently held talks with a high-level team from the French multinational utility company Engie Group.

This comes in line with Dewa's strategy to forge strong ties with major global companies for knowledge exchange and sharing of best practices in the energy sector, said a statement from the company.

The visiting delegation led by Gérard Mestrallet, the group chairman and co-chairman of the Carbon Pricing Coalition, a climate initiative resulting from COP21, was received by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive of Dewa.

The meeting was attended by senior Dewa officials including Waleed Salman, the executive vice-president of business development and excellence and Dr Yousef Al Akraf, executive vice-president of business support and human resources.

During the talks, Al Tayer discussed means to enhance co-operation and exchange of best international experiences and expertise in renewable, clean energy and environmental sustainability.

He presented the Dubai utility’s most prominent development projects and strategic initiatives to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide 75 per cent of Dubai's energy from clean sources by 2050.

Al Tayer briefed the delegation on Dewa’s efforts to establish the infrastructure for electricity and water services in Dubai on par with highest standards and best global practices.

He pointed out that to achieve these goals, Dewa had launched many green programmes and initiatives.

These include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park which will become the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the independent power producer (IPP) model, with a total planned capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030 at a total investment of Dh50 billion.

Gérard Mestrallet and the Engie delegation presented their latest energy-generation solutions and technologies to develop smart and sustainable solutions that support a low-carbon economy.

The visiting team also expressed its intent to participate in Dewa projects to achieve the sustainable development of Dubai.-TradeArabia News Service
