Albwardy Marine Engineering, founded in Al Jadaf (Dubai) in 1978 by Ali Albwardy, recently celebrated its 40th anniversary in the UAE along with its 10th anniversary for a successful joint venture with the Dutch shipyards Damen.

Albwardy Damen, a joint venture providing shipbuilding and ship repair services to the marine and oil and gas related industries in the Middle East, also officially inaugurated its new facility at the Dubai Maritime City (DMC) with approximately 100 attendees who were present at the event from both government and key industry makers such as Dubai Maritime City and Dubai Maritime City Authority.

Well known as a leading shipbuilding and repair service provider for the Middle East Maritime Industry, Albwardy Damen operates in Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah; driven by its commitment to achieving excellence through abiding by technical and environmental standards.

With an aim to increase its operations and foster strong relations with clients, the company has expanded to Dubai Maritime City (DMC) from Al Jadaf.

The new facility became recently operational allowing it to deliver the same safety standards and quality services promised to customers.

Ali Saeed Juma Albwardy, chairman and director of Albwardy Investment, said: “The primary aim of the company has always been to offer its current and potential customers the ultimate best of service excellence.”

“Albwardy Damen’s tremendous growth over the past ten years is a strong testament to its never-ending pursuit of technical innovation and its dedication towards providing services according to the satisfaction of consumers,” he said.

With a move to Dubai Maritime City (DMC) from Al Jadaf, Albwardy Damen anticipates an increase in operations and is optimistic of opportunities to foster strong relations with new clients Lars Seistrup, managing director, Albwardy Damen, said: “Our new Dubai facility will allow us to deliver the same safety and quality as in our Sharjah yard. Dubai Maritime City is strategically located at heart of Dubai which makes it the most attractive destination and we will deliver a second to none service to our customers.”

“We are committed to provide our clients with a state-of-the-art quality of services as we have always strived for continuous growth and progress in the region, in line with the UAE Maritime Vision 2030,” he said.

The company has a total workforce of around 1100 comprising of 26 different nationalities and harbours key competencies in house, with an extensive engineering division dedicated for repairing and building vessels according to the highest technical and environmental standards. It is also certified by LRQA to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 as well as API Q1.

Saeed Mohammed Hareb, secretary general of Dubai Sports Council (DSC), said: “Our main objective is to establish Dubai as a hub par excellence in the maritime industry.”

“Dubai has already reached a new milestone in the international maritime sector after being selected as one of the world’s top five hubs in the International Shipping Centre Development Index (ISCD). Companies such as Albwardy Damen are further paving the path for the emirate and the UAE to become a recognized, established and influential force within the global maritime economy,” he added.

According to the latest company news, Albwardy Damen found success on the shipbuilding front earlier this year through the delivery of the world’s biggest Rotortug, ART 100-46 the “RT Raven” which has been specifically designed to meet the offshore field’s unique marine service requirements.

Furthermore, the company also delivered an ASD 2913 Tug to SAQR Port in July 2018 and a liftboat to Aqua Diving Services.

As of late September, the company owns the busiest syncrolift in the world. During the first half of 2018, Albwardy Damen has built and repaired upwards of 100 vessels and predicts a similar outcome to last year’s tallies, targeting to achieve better results.
