The Khan Younis Waste Water Treatment Plant is being developed under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), said senior company officials.

On completion, it will have a capacity of more than 9 million cu m of treated wastewater which will be recharged annually into a local purifier, thus providing the residents of Khan Younis access to cleaner water for agriculture purposes, they stated.

Working alongside key partners Metito (Overseas) and Artelia/Universal Group for Consulting & Engineering, SAM Engineering an Eaton authorised panel builder in Jordan, Eaton will be providing complete xEnergy LV Systems, Power Distribution Components and Industrial Control solutions for the treatment plant in Gaza.

Eaton Middle East Managing Director Ashraf Yehia said: "This is a very important project that has been established in Gaza which gives will provide adequate and clean water."

"We are pleased that our solutions, which provide energy efficiency and help customers effectively manage electrical power more efficiently, safely and sustainably, are being used for such an important project in Gaza," he noted.

Roberto Valent, UNDP Special Representative of the Administrator, said: "Access to clean water is a fundamental human right. Yet, many people in Gaza face acute water shortages on a daily basis."

"At present, more than 97% of Gaza’s water does not meet WHO quality standards as a result of sewage infiltration into the sole fresh water source in Gaz," stated Valent.

"UNDP, along with its partners the Government of Japan, and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development through the Islamic Development Bank, have fully embraced and supported this project, recognising its impact that will go beyond serving and improving the lives of over 360,000 people in Gaza and generating around 40,000 working days for unemployed Palestinians," he added.

Yehia said Eaton is an industry leader in product solutions with safety-conscious design and installation that comply with the latest industry codes and standards.

"Low-voltage power distribution systems are fundamental for such an expansive development and will improve reliability, increase efficiency and enhance safety while our low-voltage electrical equipment will distribute, monitor and manage power throughout the waste water treatment plant," remarked Yehia.

"This contract further solidifies Eaton’s position as a provider of world-class products to major complexes across the region," he added.
