Bold, new clean oil mission needed: Aramco CEO

ABU DHABI, September 10, 2019

Saudi Aramco President & CEO, Amin H Nasser, spoke at the 2019 World Energy Congress this morning, addressing the need for a bold, new mission of ultra-clean oil and gas to address the climate challenge.

Nasser discussed the importance of not only meeting the world’s growing demand for ample energy - safely produced, reliably supplied, and at affordable prices - but also meeting society’s growing demand for much cleaner energy.

Nasser said: “The entire industry must come together around a bold, new mission of making oil and gas cleaner across the full spectrum of end-use applications.  And make it our most urgent priority.”

He also shared Saudi Aramco’s carbon intensity figure which is among the lowest globally at 10 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per barrel of oil equivalent (industry average is about 49 kilograms), as well as the company’s flaring intensity which remains at less than 1% of its gas production.

He also highlighted some of Saudi Aramco’s achievements in this area, including greater efficiency and lower emissions in transport; crude-to-chemicals technology; carbon-free hydrogen fuels; carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS); and advanced materials even in electric vehicles and renewables industries — all part of a broader climate initiative.  - TradeArabia News Service
