Belgian govt ‘resigns’
, July 22, 2013
Belgian King Philippe (R) shakes hands with members of the government as they offer their resignation in the Royal Palace in Brussels on July 22.
It is tradition for the government to offer its resignation, which will then be declined by the newly sworn in king, as a symbolic act in respect for the monarchy. Belgium swore in Philippe as its new king on Sunday after his father Albert II abdicated. Reuters/Eric Vidal
