Samsung rolls out new Star WiFi
Dubai, September 9, 2009
Samsung Electronics said it has released a Wi-Fi enabled version of Samsung Star, its hugely popular touch screen mobile phone, on popular demand in the Middle East region.
The Star WiFi, in an ultra thin case of merely 11.9 mm and 3-inch WQVGA touch screen, is an affordable mobile phone that appeals to young consumers, said a senior official.
It also boasts high-tech features such as Samsung’s exclusive high-quality sound technology, Embedded Stylus, for ease of use and convenience when browsing the net, DNSe, as well as a SmileShot-enabled camera and Bluetooth v2.1.
The Star’s global success can be attributed in part to its sleek design, interactive and user-friendly UI, and its reasonable price point.
The phone boasts 3-inch display screen and Samsung's TouchWiz 1.0 touch technology that makes using the phone easy and more enjoyable.
The featured Online Widgets also allow a more convenient and unlimited access to the Internet; users can blog or upload their photos on the move or even enjoy their MySpace and Facebook societies on the go.
The Widgets are also available for every day's usability including access to the weather forecasts, Google search, sports news and new game downloads.
Sandeep Saihgal, general manager, Mobile Phone Division, Samsung Gulf Electronics said, 'The rise in mobile social networking and cloud computing means that being connected to the internet via your mobile is a must have feature for everyone. After listening to initial feedback from consumers in the region we have decided to release a Wi-Fi enabled version of the Samsung Star.”
More than 700,000 units of the Star were sold in May and more than 900,000 in July globally. Monthly sales in August and September were 1.6 million and 1.8 million, respectively. Based on the current trend, Samsung projects total cumulative sales to reach 10 million globally by November, he added.
Samsung Star WiFi is available at all major electronics outlets and is retailed at Dh799($217), and comes in black, white, Pink and Silver colours.-TradeArabia News Service
