Verifone unveils latest card solutions in ME

London, August 2, 2011

US-based VeriFone Systems, a global leader in secure electronic payment solutions, has introduced a number of its latest card acceptance technologies and security solutions in the Middle East.

EPOS evolution

Designed as a retail ‘fraud-buster’, Chip and Pin is putting the EPOS (electronic point of sale) devices in the hands of the consumer, creating a unique customer ‘touch-point’.

VeriFone has created VX Evolution a new generation of devices featuring industry-leading performance with ARM11 advanced high-speed processors and large standard memory configurations.

Sophisticated and stylish, they deliver colourful, interactive content, and are designed to appeal to modern users – making transactions easier, more intuitive and convenient, a statement said.

Designed to PCI PTS 3.0  specifications, VX Evolution POS devices incorporate end-to-end encryption and tokenization for optimum security and multiple connectivity option for maximum flexibility.

The VeriFone VX Evolution payment solutions also include integrated contactless and NFC capabilities for acceptance of contactless cards, fobs and mobile-phone initiated NFC payments.

VeriFone is using VX Evolution in conjunction with tokenisation to safeguard cardholder data while providing information for loyalty and CRM applications.
Mobile POS for retailers

Wireless connectivity including GPRS, WIFI, 3 and 4 G will become vital as merchants seek to extend and integrate their electronic payments systems in rural areas across the Middle East.

Traditional wireless POS solutions are available but their cost often prohibits large scale roll-out.  To counteract this VeriFone has developed a revolutionary new solution PAYware Mobile Enterprise.

This features VeriFone’s unique secure card encryption reader - incorporating an EMV PIN pad and a 2D bar code scanner - which slots onto an existing WiFi smart device, enabling it to perform card transactions and standard check-out, inventory and control tasks.

The device is integrated to existing retail systems through VeriFone’s PAYware payments gateway and cardholders’ data is protected throughout using VeriFone’s end-to-end encryption software.

PAYware Mobile also features built-in contactless payment capability to take advantage of anticipated rollouts of contactless and NFC payments within the region.

It also allows retailers to exploit smart device functionality including colour touch screens, internet access and even image capture and to tap into consumer focused apps and content; in order to create compelling new sales and information tools for staff on the shop floor.

Unattended and ticketing

At the same time as retail EPOS systems are evolving to accommodate improved security, mobile applications and changing consumer habits in the Middle East, so too are unattended payments – particularly in retail and petro installations.

Lower component costs and better connectivity options are seeing the same trends towards touch screens, colour displays, EMV and contactless within all types of self service applications.

There is also a dramatic rise in unattended ticketing applications driven by governments, transportation companies, hospitality and private organisations seeking to boost efficiency, increase throughput and create more integrated solutions with far reaching benefits to international travellers and domestic commuters.

Combined with the introduction of contactless and NFC platforms, VeriFone anticipates a new wave of investment in this area and is ready with a portfolio of robust in and outdoor ticketing and self service payments solutions to accommodate this. – TradeArabia News Service
