Makro makes world’s biggest casserole

Cairo, July 9, 2012

Leading international wholesale hypermarket brand, Makro, recently prepared the world’s largest potato casserole with Procter and Gamble, under the sponsorship of Fairy, as a part of Makro Egypt’s second anniversary celebration.

This is in line with Makro Egypt’s continued efforts to introduce innovative and novel ideas and products to the Egyptian market, a statement from an official said.

The casserole, which was 1 meter in diameter, contained 400 kgs of ingredients, the preparation of which was supervised by Chef Youssry and Sherif Madkour, two of Egypt’s top figures in the gastronomic arena.

Approximately 10 people participated in the making of the casserole, with the Egyptian Chefs Association aiding in the endeavor.

All ingredients used were locally sourced, reflecting Makro’s belief in utilising local produce in their business, where more than 90 per cent of the products within their stores are also locally sourced.

Commenting on the second anniversary celebration and the casserole, the managing director of Makro Egypt, Francois Oliver, said: “We are proud to have been present in the Egyptian market for the past two years and we look forward to a long and fruitful stay in the country. This casserole was our way of showing our customers that great things can come in big sizes, such as this casserole, or our warehouse stores and wholesale products.”

Makro recently introduced visa payment and home delivery to their customers as part of a long line of initiatives which will help Egyptians in expanding and growing their businesses. – TradeArabia News Service
