Abu Dhabi Duty Free retail sales up 13pc

Abu Dhabi Duty Free has registered a 13 per cent increase in its retail sales for 2013 which soared to a record Dh912.7 million ($248 million) compared to the year before, said a report.

The successful year ended on a high note when December proved to be the busiest month of the calendar year and sales figures reached Dh92 million at Abu Dhabi International Airport, stated the Emirati news agency WAM.

The most popular gifts purchased by air travelers were beauty products, fragrances, watches, gold and diamonds.

Several major retail outlets opened at Abu Dhabi International Airport during the year, ading to the record revenue figures, the report stated.

An Emporio Armani shop opened in Terminal 3 and in the same building Burberry doubled the size of its shop as it sold for the first time ready-to-wear clothing, as well as accessories, it added.
