ATU Duty Free wins Salalah Airport contract

ATU Duty Free, a joint venture between TAV Airports and Unifree Duty Free/Gebr Heinemann, has won a 10-year operation rights of duty free stores tender at the newly developed Salalah International Airport.

The venture will begging operations from January next year, said a statement.

Ersan Arcan, ATU Duty Free GM, said: "Salalah Airport will become an important port in the Middle East with its six million passenger capacity. The rapid increase in the number of passengers strengthened our confidence in Oman. Our contract is for the management and operation of duty free, retail and food & beverage concessions at Salalah Airport. We will provide services in this airport together with TAV subsidiaries BTA, which is the Group’s F&B operations arm; and also TAV Operation Services."

The tender was held through competitive bidding method and ATU Duty Free won the operation rights of duty-free stores, covering an area in excess of 700 sq m.

Headquartered in Istabul, the company also operates duty free stores at Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara and Gazipaşa airports in Turkey; Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi airports in Georgia; Enfidha and Monastir airports in Tunisia; Skopje and Ohrid airports in Macedonia; and Riga Airport in Latvia.

The new terminal at Salalah Airport is due for opening soon, with an initial capacity of one million passengers per year. - TradeArabia News Service
